Some “Old Hero” Comics I would like to See

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. Last post I did a recap of my 2018 predictions, but I figured I would do a little something different for this post.

Starting with Dark Knight Returns(and probably before that) comics have been taking a look at iconic heroes as the enter their so-called “golden years”. Now thanks to Old Man Logan, the recently ended Old Man Hawkeye, the currently running Old Lady Harley and the recently announced Old Man Quill the idea of aging superheroes coming out of retirement in a dystopia future has become more common place and its a trend I would like to see continue. Here are some heroes- both super and non-super I would like to see get the “Old Man” treatment.

Daredevil: This one is probably the most likely as it was teased at the end of Old Man Hawkeye when Hawkeye  runs into a new version of the character named Stick who is revealed to be Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. How did Matt survive what I’m going to call the “Hero Purge”? How did he come to adopt the name Stick? I think a miniseries exploring this and his training with Hawkeye as teased at the end of Old Man Hawkeye would be cool to see

Deadpool:  If any hero were to survive the Hero Purge besides Wolverine, Daredevil, and Hawkeye it would definitely be Deadpool. While Old Lady Harley is currently giving the “Dystopia Future Aging Hero” genre a humorous twist I feel like there’s also room for Deadpool to add a little levity to the dystopia universe set up in Old Man Logan.  This could also work as a standalone story.

Black Panther:  It is never explicitly  stated what happens to  T’chala the King of Wakanda in Old Man Logan or Old Man Hawkeye,  so it stands to my reasoning that he could have possibly avoided the Hero Purge and went into exile in his home nation of Wakanda. I think this leaves the door open for him to return once his home in threatened by superheroes and maybe him coming to grips with his mortality as he is the last of his genetic line and has no clear successor for the throne

Dr. Doom: Who’s to say the heroes should have all the fun. Victor von Doom has been one of my favorite villains since reading some early Fantastic Four comics as a kid and the idea of his adventures in the Old Man Logan universe is immensely intriguing to me.  He is mentioned in Old Man Hawkeye  and shown briefly in Old Man Logan and I think if any villain deserves their tale told it’s him.

Aquaman: Who says Marvel should have all the fun. Much like Black Panther Aquaman’s story would involve him retreating to his home nation and returning to action once it is threatened.

Green Lantern:  This story could most likely go by the Last Lantern  and deal with Hal Jordan(or possibly John Stewart) after they are left has the last Green Lantern(or possibly Lantern of any spectrum) after some event destroys the rest of the Green Lantern Corps and most of the Earth’s heroes have died. Now he wanders the universe in an attempt resurrect the Green Lanterns.

Han Solo/Princess Leia: Who says it just has to been superheroes who get the “Old Man” treatment. The last time we saw Han Solo he was being killed by his son and the next time we’ll see Leia will be in Episode IX, but with 30 years between Episode VI and Episode VII there is plenty of story for either character. A Han Solo adventure just before Force Awakens dealing with a smuggling job gone wrong would be cool to see.

James Bond: The story of an aging Bond has probably been done before, but not in comic form to the best of my knowledge. I would maybe keep the story in relative real-time according to the novels so set the story during the end of the Cold War with 007 last mission.

Mulder and Scully:  After the finale of season 11 I’m not sure if we’ll ever get a truly satisfying conclusion to the X-files, on TV that is, but that doesn’t mean a comic miniseries featuring both of them coming out of retirement for one last standalone mystery and maybe even introducing a whole new generation of X-files agents would be cool to see.

What do you think of my choices? What heroes would you like to see get the “Old Man” treatment.

That does it for me. As always, thanks for listening and any comments are welcome and appreciated.
